How Often to Change Oil in a Toyota Camry

Before we dive into the process of a Toyota Camry oil change, you might be wondering how often an oil change is needed. If you’re unsure if you need an oil change, most recommend changing the oil in a Toyota Camry about every 5,000 miles or every six months, whichever comes first. If you use synthetic oil, then it’s recommended that you change the oil every 10,000 miles. You should consult your owner’s manual for a more specific number, and keep in mind that your Azle driving habits will affect how often you’ll need to change the oil in your Camry. However often you end up changing the oil in your Toyota Camry, the most important thing to remember is to be consistent.

Toyota Camry Oil Change Process

When it’s time to give your Toyota Camry an oil change, you’ll need to be sure that you have the proper tools. Here are the tools you’ll need before you get started:

  • Funnel
  • Oil Collection Pan
  • Oil Filter
  • Rags
  • Oil (Check owner’s manual for how many quarts)

All of the following parts can be found at our parts store at Shottenkirk Toyota of Weatherford when you shop online. Once you have all of the necessary parts, it’s time to get your hands a little dirty. Don’t be intimidated though, the process of a Toyota Camry oil change is pretty simple. Here are the steps:

  1. Locate the oil plug underneath the Camry. You can find it by consulting our owner’s manual.
  2. Place the oil collection pan underneath the Camry. Then, take off the oil plug and let the oil drain into the collection pan.
  3. Once the oil is done draining, remove the old oil filter, and insert the new oil filter.
  4. After the oil filter has been replaced, you’ll then want to replace the oil drain plug.
  5. Remove the engine oil cap by unscrewing it.
  6. Using a funnel, add the recommended amount of oil. Keep an eye out to make sure that nothing is leaking underneath the Camry.
  7. After adding the oil, check the dipstick and add more oil if the level is low.
  8. If the maintenance light is still flashing, you’ll need to reset it.
